Baumgartners jump from heaven sends youtube to hell

14. Oktober 2012

Todays „space jump“ of Felix Baumgartner from about 39km was a complete success. The RedBull sponsored stratosphere jump was a try to get 4 new world records at once after 5 years of preparation.  Felix Baumgartner tried to get the record for

– longest free fall

– high speed jump at super sonic speed

– highest balloon travel

– free fall from highest elevation ever

It seems by know he got at least 3 of 4 records.

However, for the jump all was very well prepared. For the live streaming definitly not, because YOUTUBE was down. For minutes and minutes it was not possible to stream videos and users worldwide reported server error 502. Felix now got a 5th record: first media event which killed Youtube. Amazing, several million people tried to watch this live stream on youtube and this possible just knocked out youtubes infrastructure – which is completly understandable. Well the technicians at YOUTUBE probably had an „amazing“ day. I can imaging how the network and server operators at Youtube/Google just stared at their monitoring systems and one icon after the other turned from green into red.

Well finally they got it fixed and all returned back to normal.

Congratulations Felix for this crazy but successful „space jump“
