Since several months I saw every date the notice that there is a new WordPress upgrade availabler after logging into several blogs i maintain. Yesterday I took the chance to do the upgrade to the newest version of WP. First issue i run into was the disk limit of my web space provider. Damn it! So I had to upgrade first to a bigger „hosting package“ which was a easy turn. I requested the upgrade online and surprise surprise after an hour i got noticed that the upgrade was done. Thanks to STRATO! I dont know why users always complain about this web hoster, but my experience with STRATO is good.
So back to the WP upgrade. There were 5 blogs I had to upgrade and as always the intergrated upgrade procedure did not work, it looks like the browser session timed always out, since the whole upgrade process takes too long. So I went back to the manual upgrade via FTP client and it works perfect. After copying all files and running the upgrade.php script all turned out fine and the blogs now running on newest WP. All together it took me only and hours to upgrade 5 blogs incl. pre-backup of the databases as well as the file system.
